But whether the Camino had been whole, fragmented, long, or short, everyone is bound to be confronted to<strong> another stage of the Camion\u00a0: returning home!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprise, surprise! Whenever everything went right, going <strong>there\u00a0meant\u00a0back again<\/strong>. Any traveler going from A to B knew s-he <strong>also had to to the journey back from B to A<\/strong>. You may say today too, everyone takes care of the journey home. Yes, they do. But&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Back in time&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 a pilgrim went back home by the same means s-he used to go. And if they took 3 months to go, it also took 3 months to go back. Let\u2019s just say that the return was <strong>clearly and very consciously<\/strong> considered as a part of the pilgrimage that was <strong>just as important as the journey to get there<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also helped to prepare and take the return from the pilgrimage in. A whole external and internal journey took place to go back, sort of <strong>a soft landing<\/strong> into \u00ab\u00a0normal\u00a0\u00bb life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Nowadays&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;we still totally go there, but <strong>&#8220;back again&#8221; is somehow lost on the way<\/strong>. We take the time to go to Santiago by foot, on a bike or horseback, but we go back home quickly by car, bus, train or plane. It sometimes takes us months to go, but <strong>we handle our return in a flash<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-gare.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-gare.jpg 480w, https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-gare-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption><em>Santiago&#8217;s train station: an easy and quick way to return back<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there is no way around going home, but this stage of the journey is often considered like <strong>an annoying formality we have to deal with<\/strong>. Never mind, <strong><em>back again<\/em> serve us well<\/strong>. No consideration for the journey home, no smooth preparation or assimilation of its effects. We rush back home and bypass its journey, sort of <strong>a violent crash<\/strong> into \u00abnormal\u00bb life.<a name=\"ancre2\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"returning-inequalities\">Inequalities when facing the return<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may say again, <strong>not everyone reacts so badly<\/strong> to their return. True! Some go home without any problem and are even quite happy to be back, while others have a hard time with their return.\u00a0Some go back by plane without any problem while the characters who do their return \u00ab\u00a0old-fashioned\u00a0\u00bb may have a very hard time to re-adapt&#8230; (Those are rare, very rare, but hats off to them!) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, <strong>not everyone deals with their return in the same way!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Fin.jpg\" alt=\"fin del camino\" class=\"wp-image-311\" title=\"&quot;Fin del Camino&quot;: the end of the Way... are you conscious it comes?\" srcset=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Fin.jpg 480w, https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Fin-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Awareness of one&#8217;s return<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, <strong>to consciously or unconsciously assimilate the return helps to deal with it better<\/strong>. I\u2019m not talking about booking a flight or a train, but to give it <strong>a <em>spiritual<\/em> place to the return<\/strong> within the realm of the journey (as in inner; non-material).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who take their vacation on the Way (as tourists) rarely feel blue when they go back home. They very well know they will go back once their stretch is done or their time over. Others can start to return before they are even arrived. They begin their inner way home before they reach Santiago, by making room again in their mind for their \u00abnormal\u00bb life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Letting go<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>degree of disconnection<\/strong> with \u00abnormal\u00bb life and its habits also influence on the way one deals with the return. <strong>The more one lets go, the more hanging back in may be violent<\/strong>. For instance, returning from a \u00abshort\u00bb trip (short being relative) seems to be easier than returning from a long pilgrimage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Letting go on one\u2019s \u00abnormal\u00bb life take time and a short trip usually doesn\u2019t let enough time to fully get there*. Some may also travel for a long time without giving up on their \u00abnormal\u00bb life during their pilgrimage&#8230;<a name=\"ancre3\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"returning-stages\">Anyways, some stages to go through<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone goes through <strong>different stages to assimilate one&#8217;s\u00a0trip and return<\/strong>. Whatever we notice it or not, <i>returning<\/i> is <strong>a process in its own right<\/strong>: our modern and fast transportation tend to make us forget that fact. Once the pilgrimage is over, we hop on a place (or something else) and\u00a0<i>voila<\/i>! We are almost instantly back at our starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> If things were so easy, everything would be fine. But actually&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-inverse-retour.jpg\" alt=\"santiago-inverse-retour\" class=\"wp-image-313\" title=\"While the body's back, the minds strolls around...\" srcset=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-inverse-retour.jpg 480w, https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/Santiago-inverse-retour-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Postponed return<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It obviously seems that despite our easy and quick means home, <strong>our head has some trouble to follow us!<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning from a journey, it\u2019s first a bit like if our body got into a plane and went home. At the same time, our spirit stays in the waiting room and goes home his own way. <strong>It keeps strolling about while our body work on autopilot at home<\/strong> to manage our daily agenda. Curiously, our mind seems to <strong>take as long time<\/strong> to return as we (altogether) took to travel&#8230; Maybe our spirit goes back again in the old-fashioned way? Whatever it is, our spirit comes back home quietly and our body waits for it&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning, at first, it\u2019s a bit like that. <strong>It\u2019s waiting for our spirit to catch our body up.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Bumpy return<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with returning home, it\u2019s when <strong>our spirit does eventually return home and catches up with our body<\/strong>, that <i>did<\/i> return home some time ago. Second stage\u00a0! Reunification is difficult, as it\u2019s <strong>a bit like if body and spirit both woke up from a sweet dream<\/strong> and became aware of the reality that surrounds them.\u00a0<br>It\u2019s exactly when we end up thinking that nothing is not going well, that everything is wrong, that everything is depressing&#8230; And that we would be better off on the Camino than stuck (again) at home! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blues, nostalgia, little (or great) depression, <strong>there\u2019s nothing we can do<\/strong>. Just <strong>accepting this gloomy moment<\/strong>, hanging in there, keeping busy, making some eventual adjustments and <strong>wait for the storm to\u00a0pass<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"270\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/2010-Fisterra-pilone.jpg\" alt=\"2010-fisterra-pilone\" class=\"wp-image-310\" title=\"Fisterra, promise of a new beginning\" srcset=\"https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/2010-Fisterra-pilone.jpg 270w, https:\/\/santiagoinlove.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/2010-Fisterra-pilone-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>Returning, at peace finally<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 <strong>because the storm passes!<\/strong> It\u2019s all about not wallowing in the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>Morale and life are like a strange swing<\/strong>. Sometimes they are up, sometimes they are down. They don\u2019t necessarily swing regularly (no gravity for them!), but they swing. <br>And what is nice about it, please take notice, it that even if there are downs with swings, <strong>there are double ups!<\/strong> We just have to avoid to catch\u00a0ourselves in the <em>down<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last stage of returning home <strong>goes smoothly, sometimes even without we&nbsp;notice it<\/strong>. Our morale&nbsp;goes up again, the fuss of our body-spirit\u2019s reunion&nbsp;has calmed down. <strong>Life regained&nbsp;its balance again<\/strong>, we can go on to the next adventure!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because <em>returning<\/em> doesn\u2019t necessarily mean \u00abreturning to the exact same self we were or same life we lived\u00bb. <strong><em>Returning<\/em>, it\u2019s to assimilate the Way to one&#8217;s life and go on our merry way&#8230;<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As pilgrims say it so well, <strong>Ultreia e suseia<\/strong>: always further, always ahead!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>And you\u00a0?
