Ultre\u00efa<\/strong>, here we are! Here is the first post on Santiago in Love! Tell about Santiago as it lives in my heart and share it on this blog<\/strong>\u2026 I had this idea not so long ago, but it seemed right and good. So, why not give it a try?<\/p>\n

To celebrate and introduce myself, my Ways and the blog<\/strong>, I thought a little self-interview<\/strong> would be just right\u2026 So let\u2019s go!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hi!<\/strong> Relax, it’s just me. No one you can’t deal with. So…\u00a0A self-interview<\/strong>, I must say it\u2019s quite unexpected! A little nut, isn\u2019t it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Well, it sets the tone. <\/strong>We don\u2019t want to be too serious. And it\u2019s just like us! We are a little nut in a lovely way, so better clear that up right away! And talking about clearing things up, would you please present yourself in a word?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, it\u2019s quite easy! Marion, permanigrina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alright\u2026 What about the same, with a few more words?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Haha! Ok! Let\u2019s see\u2026 I\u2019m Marion<\/strong>, French<\/strong> bred. I travel<\/strong> since I was a kid. I prefer nature<\/strong> to cities. My life is a bit<\/del>\u00a0completely quirky.<\/strong> Few people guess my true age, myself included (it changes every year, did you know?). I like to laugh, travel, horse<\/strong> ride, draw, read, write,<\/strong> win or lose at board games, danse.<\/strong> Is it better?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yeah, not bad. And the permanigrina thing<\/strong>? What is it?<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s what I do in life. I\u2019m a pilgrim, I peregrinate permanently<\/strong>. Which makes a permanigrina out of me. It\u2019s a permanent occupation<\/strong>, a sort of a full-time job as a human being<\/strong>. No job interview, I just had to swear to live according to my heart and to be faithful to the bit of the Soul of the World that is inside me<\/strong>. Ma mission involves to love more<\/strong> and more and to make my conscience grow<\/strong>, with humor and humility. What a job, let me tell you! And by the way, it takes people on all the time<\/strong>\u2026 Would you like a new job?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\u2019m good, thanks. We work together, remember? So\u2026 what about Santiago?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, I grew up hearing about St James’\u00a0pilgrimage<\/strong>. In kids’ magazines, my mother was attracted by the Ways, my grand-mother was a catholic, there were articles, posts and talks here and there\u2026 All I can say is the Way of Santiago was very present \u201csomewhere in there\u201d for\u00a0a long time<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But\u2026 are we catholics?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

No<\/strong>. Our parents are, but they are not practicing. They never baptize me because they wanted to let me chose what I wanted to be. Every religion was brought up at home, it was very open and tolerant. Today, I have very lively spirituality, but I still don\u2019t belong to any religion<\/strong>.<\/a> And whatsoever, there is no need to be catholic, to be practicing or to believe in something to set off to Santiago!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

True, it\u2019s universal! But then, what made us hit the road?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The year was 2009, a cold Novermber morning in Strasbourg. I woke up quite dozy<\/del> with a certainty in my heart and mind<\/strong>: within the year, I would be gone from my place, alone and by foot, to reach Santiago in one go. I like to say Saint James called me to him<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And we did it<\/strong>! And we went again<\/strong>. Several times. Actually, we never really came back<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Exactly! We did the Way from Strasbourg<\/strong> (France) in 2010, from Granada<\/strong> (Spain) in 2011 and from Arles<\/strong> (France) in 2015. What an adventure every time! And you\u2019re right, we always have a bit of our heart with Saint James<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Good old Jacques\u2026 He become a true friend, didn’t he?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yeah, every time he “invites” me to Santiago, I just can\u2019t say no!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do we have some data on our adventures<\/strong> close at hand?<\/span><\/p>\n

It really isn\u2019t what matters<\/strong>, but yes, we do. 3<\/strong> departures, 11<\/strong> different sections, 3.420<\/strong> miles, 5<\/strong> pilgrim\u2019s passport\u00a0with 240<\/strong> stamps, 7<\/strong>\u00bd<\/strong>\u00a0months, more than\u00a04200<\/strong> pictures\u00a0including more than\u00a0580<\/strong> pics of shells, about 1800\u20ac<\/strong> in total, 3<\/strong> pairs of\u00a0shoes, 2<\/strong> backpacks, 1<\/strong> pair of walking sticks, 1<\/strong> tendinitis, 3<\/strong> Compostela,<\/i> 1<\/strong> Fisterrana<\/i>, 1\u00a0<\/strong>Muxiana<\/i>, hundreds<\/strong> of encounters, some<\/strong> blisters and many many many many<\/strong> cans of tuna, chocolate bar and Maria cookies.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wow\u2026 But there are some odd info here\u2026 11 sections? 5 pilgrim passports? 1800\u20ac total<\/em>\u00a0? Are you giving me data off the top of your head or what?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

No no. Allow\u00a0me to be more precise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a02010, Strasbourg \u2013 Santiago \u2013 Muxia\/Fisterra<\/strong>, so\u00a01.680 miles in\u00a03 month\u00a0\u00bd with\u00a0~10\u20ac\/day, through\u00a06 different sections. They were the approach ways to the Puy-en-Velay, then the\u00a0via Podiensis, then the\u00a0Camino Franc\u00e9s (up to\u00a0Pampelona), then the Camino del Norte, then the\u00a0Camino Primitivo and finally the\u00a0Camino to\u00a0Muxia and Fisterra. I used 3 pilgrim\u2019s passports to squeeze my stamps in.<\/p>\n

In\u00a02011, Grenade \u2013 Santiago<\/strong>, so\u00a0685 miles in\u00a01 month\u00a0\u00bd with\u00a0~10\u20ac\/day, through\u00a03 different sections. They were the\u00a0Camino Moz\u00e1rabe, then the\u00a0Via de la Plata and finally the\u00a0Camino Sanabr\u00e9s. My stamps all squeezed in one pilgrim\u2019s passport!<\/p>\n

In\u00a02015, Arles \u2013 Santiago<\/strong>, so\u00a0995 miles in\u00a02 months \u00bd with ~5\u20ac\/day, through\u00a03 different sections. They were the via Tolosana, then the\u00a0Camino Aragon\u00e9s and finally the\u00a0Camino Franc\u00e9s. Again, one pilgrim\u2019s passport was enough for my stamps.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alright. But still\u2026 Why do we go again and again?<\/strong> Isn\u2019t it a bit mad, to walk all these miles to return to the same place? Do we find something special in Santiago?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In Santiago, no, it\u2019s just a city. The Way is why I\u00a0go,<\/strong>\u00a0but it\u2019s still hard to say precisely why.<\/strong> I go\u00a0without knowing why, but I always discover new reasons. I don\u2019t seek\u00a0anything, but I find things out. And if I do<\/em> know why I go and what I\u2019m seeking, I end up thinking \u00a0didn\u2019t know anything and I find out what I needed but wasn\u2019t seeking.<\/p>\n

What is certain is, I feel called to go<\/strong>. And as I trust that call that speaks to my heart, I go. When I answer \u201cyes!\u201d to that call, it brings balance and relevance into my life<\/strong>. I know I\u2019m exactly where I have to be, at the the right moment. I fully take my place, with awareness. I\u2019m on a\u00a0perfect balance between the material and spiritual worlds. It lights me up from the inside and radiate around me. I feel full of love, gratitude, joy and peace. I guess I can say I belong to the Way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2026 All the more reasons to get anyone\u00a0hook\u00a0on the Camino!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Exactly ! This is what I think and obviously, I\u2019m not the only one. Just have a look at the success of\u00a0the Ways today!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And so, this blog!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s it! Santiago in Love<\/b>. Because I\u2019m in love of Santiago and because Santiago is a Way full of love<\/strong>. And so, so much love everywhere I want to share it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be about Santiago,\u00a0obviously<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes! About James, about Saint<\/em> James, about Saint James\u00a0of Compostela<\/em>, about the Ways<\/em> of Saint James of Compostela. Santiago from every angle!<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ok, ok, about\u00a0Saint James! You made your point! But there already are many websites and blog talking about Santiago. Why another blog? What is going to be special about ours?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re right, there already are so many thing on the matter\u2026 There are many blogs about personal adventures, websites that talks about History, networks that give practical advice. What I want to to with Santiago In Love, it\u2019s all of that at once. I\u2019d like to create a sort of encyclopedia<\/strong> that gathers everything that concerns Santiago. History, geography, general knowledge, architecture art, literature, gears, stages, accommodations, famous people on the Camino, and so on.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are we simply going to make a remix<\/strong> of what is going on elsewhere?<\/span><\/p>\n

Partly<\/strong>. All of this fascinates me and matters to me, but I also really feel like tackling a neglected aspect of the Way<\/strong>. Wrongly neglected!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Which neglected aspect of the Way?<\/strong> Everything has been said and said again, don\u2019t you think?<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think so, but it\u2019s only my opinion. For lack of better words, I\u2019d say I want to talk about the \u201cesoteric\u201d aspect of the Way<\/strong>. I want to talk about its spiritual side, about its flock of weird events, about the change that takes place within us, about the strange energy of the Ways. I want to talk about this \u201csomething\u201d we feel and acknowledge, but is so hard to grasp, describe and share<\/strong>. It really fascinates me, but I find it difficult to find texts that deals about it. I hope what I\u2019ll write will get people interested!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I see\u2026 But hey! It\u2019s a huge project we have, our blog!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yeah! Exciting, isn\u2019t it?!\u00a0And it\u2019s not it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

No! I\u2019ll also talk a lot about me<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

No way?!? Are we\u00a0having a\u00a0narcissistic and egocentric tendency at the end?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Haha, isn\u2019t it scary? But, no<\/strong>. I will only tell about personal stories<\/strong> of my pilgrimages et I\u2019ll share what Santiago inspires me<\/strong>. It\u2019s my blog and after all, a blog is made for that purpose. But I\u2019ll behave, I promise<\/strong>. I won\u2019t post too many pictures of my blisters and I\u2019ll try\u00a0not to bring everything back to my little self. Anyways, if my feet got to big for my boots, I wouldn\u2019t be able to hit the road again<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
